Welcome to The Burning Hearth. Back in 2023, I brought together six writers to do a six-part interview series focused on Ursula K. Le Guin and her work. My guests, William Alexander, Susan DeFreitas, Kylie Mirmomahadi, Julie Phillips, Kyle Winkler, and Isaac Yuen, proved to be a diverse sextet.
I like to imagine that I have a cabin, tucked in a wood near a lake. In the cabin’s center is a round hearth. Of course, their is a crackling fire surrounded by large, overstuffed chairs. This is the place and the space where I, in my imagination, interview my guests. How fun it would have been to actually be around a fire with this eclectic bunch, all of whom are passionate and knowledgeable about the chosen subject. Listening to them exchange their unique perspectives in person, would have been magical.
Yet, somehow these six people created magic without being in the same place. And now, I have brought the magic of the full “Echoes of Le Guin” series together in this post. With a simple click you can discover, or rediscover, this enchanted series, inspired by the one and only, Ursula K. Le Guin.

I hope you find yourself returning to this post from time to time. And, I hope you share it with your friends.
Up next is an interview with Isaac Yuen. We will be discussing his book UTTER, EARTH: Advice on Lining in a More-than-Human World (West Virginia University Press, 2024).
Until then, stay safe!
